DSTEP Program – Year 1

OVERVIEW

The DSTEP ( The Digital Skills for Teachers & Education Professionals ) Program equips future teachers with digital literacy, 21st Century Pedagogy, workforce readiness, and financial skills.

It is redefining teacher training in Rwanda, with more than 50 000 certifications earned in Year 1.

It equips future teachers with digital skills, boosts employability, and sets a benchmark for inclusive, scalable teacher education across Sub-Saharan Africa.

In line with Rwanda’s digital transformation, this four-year initiative bridges key skill gaps and empowers pre-service teachers to succeed in today’s classrooms. Supported by ADAPT, it ensures inclusive access to laptops across UR-CE’s Rukara, Nyagatare, and Remera campuses.

OBJECTIVES

  • Improve the learning and digital skills of the pre-service teachers.
  • Support the transition into the labour market.

OUTCOMES

  • Internationally recognised Certification for Pre-service teachers when they graduate, which enhances their professional standing.
  • A blended learning system with trained facilitators providing peer support in-person and online.
  • Capacity Building : Workshops integrating content in the official UR-CE Curriculum.
  • Equity Measures ensuring inclusivity, and supporting students with disabilities.
